My primary medium is text. I use letterpress, typewriters, stamps, and other mediums on paper to create images with words. Embedded in these words are women’s images and stories. The layers of uncertainty presented by the pandemic contributed to a need to shift my studio practices. Remnant #4is an experimental piece. In the studio, I have been creating order from chaos. I cut up, break apart, and rearrange remnants and proofs of earlier work. This process obscures the original words and stories. When I carefully stitch together the remnants, however, new relationships are created. I see this piecemeal work as a common thread for many artists during the pandemic. The process creates a semblance of meaning and a tenuous step towards a new sense of order.
