I began by sifting through the hellbox in my university's print shop and assembled the small orphaned type into a square of letters. I cut stencils for the first layer of printing and taped them to the paper I was printing on. I then ran the square paper through twice in different orientations to obscure the letter forms as the marks built atop each other. After I had this shape printed within a field of embossed uninked letters, I printed a 4-layer reduction relief cut with split fountains on the same Vandercook SP15.
